点评:It is well worth taking the Welcome Center's walking tour if you want an intro to downtown Athen's sites and history.
The Welcome Center runs a walking tour which, at the time of writing, was offered daily at 10:30am for $15. This was my first time in Athens and I was interested in seeing the downtown sites and learning about the city's history. Although there was some light rain, the tour still took place (with the Welcome Center kindly providing loaner umbrellas). The tour starts with a walk through the Welcome Center's building (the oldest house in Athens) and then continues to historic downtown sites and the main, historic quad of the University of Georgia. The guide, Luis, did a fine job with the tour. His genuine interest in the topic made the tour more engaging and informative than I had expected, and he welcomed questions.
I would not deem any of the sites of downtown Athens as visually spectacular, must-see-before-you-die sites; but if an intro walking tour sounds appealing, the tour provided by the Welcome Center is a good one.
