点评：**Disappointing birthday spa day at Brooklands**
This was a birthday gift and unfortunately it did not live up to the price or the photos.
**Spa facilities**
The relaxation space itself was much smaller than expected, just a Himalayan salt room, two saunas and a steam room. The salt room seating was so close together that privacy was impossible, and the seats were often damp from previous guests. The infrared sauna was uncomfortably bright and hot, the Finnish sauna had a broken timer, and the steam room was hotter and less pleasant than either sauna. None of the rooms had any aromatherapy scent, no eucalyptus or anything similar, which is normally part of what makes a spa feel relaxing. The walkway to the experience shower had standing water on it and we both nearly slipped, which needs addressing before someone gets hurt. The outdoor jacuzzi was a genuine highlight, with a lovely view over Mercedes Benz World, but it was the best part of the wet area by some distance.
**Treatment**
My friend's therapist arrived a couple of minutes late, mine arrived closer to ten past three for a slot that started at three. In the treatment room I was asked to lower my swimming costume to my waist while the therapist remained in the room rather than stepping out, which felt inappropriate, especially as we were already behind schedule. The massage felt rushed and impersonal, hot oil was applied without warning and in a larger amount than felt necessary, and a wooden roller tool used partway through looked as though it had been grabbed off a shelf as an afterthought. I had no idea whether or how it had been cleaned. We were back in reception by 3:30, so the booked half hour did not fully happen once the late start is taken into account.
**Afternoon tea**
Our tea order was mixed up, and what eventually arrived labelled as green tea smelled like passionfruit and rose rather than green tea. The food did not match the presentation shown in photos, one small pot of cream was provided for four scones between two people (a second was brought over when asked), and I was met with a puzzled look when I asked for a fork for the cakes.
**Sustainability**
The spa uses single use plastic cups for water, and a staff member was overheard telling guests to bin their flip flops after use, while downstairs the same venue charges 50p for eco friendly takeaway boxes. That does not add up.
**Overall**
As a birthday treat this was underwhelming across every part of the day: the facilities, the treatment and the afternoon tea. I would not book again.
