点评:The cruise into this magnificent, tiny fjord is almost beyond description! It is renowned by Pacific Northwest boaters as the Crown Jewel of northwest boating. The entrance is guarded by the dogleg Malibu Rapids, and it is the wise boater who looks at the tide charts and goes through at slack water. Inside, once through the rapids, with the famous Young Life camp, Malibu alongside, the vistas open up to a four mile long inlet, only about 2/3 of a mile wide at its wides, surrounded by a ring of mountains and in the spring at least, hundreds of waterfalls, looking like twisted white yarn, spinning down hundreds and thousands of feet. About 3/4 of the way to the end and Chatterbox Falls, is a small island, owned by the Princess Louisa Society, a non-profit group of primarily boaters, who have donated their time and money to preserve this national treasure from commercial interests. And, at the end of this magnificent, pristine inlet, is a small campground, a long dock for boaters (in season, anyway, several buoys, and the famous wide, high, Chatterbox Falls, thundering down into the inlet from on high. Our favorite position on the dock was being at the end, closest to the falls, with our stern facing it, and listening to the waterfall music, especially soothing at night. The docks are supplied and maintained, again, at the courtesy of the Princess Louisa Society, in cooperation with BC Parks.
We have visited this incredibly beautiful, unique place three times in our own boats, and at least three more times in commercial, very small cruise ships, and it never fails to enchant us. The famous novelist, Earle Stanley Gardner, after having seen it, called it the most beautiful place in the world -- and indeed, many years ago, the readers of Travel & Leisure, in the annual "Top Ten" travel places and experiences, included it in the category of "World's Top Ten Most Beautiful Places" While there, we came across a young man camping at the campground. He lived in Australia, and had read about Princess Louisa in a travel magazine. He was so moved by the photos and descriptions ,it became a quest for him. He flew to Vancouver, B.C. bought a kayak with camping supplies, and paddled all the way up the coast to be able to experience this for himself. He told us it was the greatest, most moving experience of his young life.
And we agree -- but, you have to see it, and experience it, for yourself, and if you do, you will be moved, and touched, by this example of natures' untainted, overwhelming beauty.
