点评:Narva Castle anchors the Estonian side of the Narva River, across from Ivangorod, its Russian counterpart. The castle is quite well preserved, and the top levels offer great views of Ivangorod. And let’s be honest, many of us are probably making the trip from Tallinn to Narva just for the novelty of being able to say that we had a glimpse of Russia. But the self-guided audio tour is a bit confusing. It is sometimes difficult to tell where you are supposed to go next, and the English-language audio guide seems AI-generated and somehow stilted. The castle was the centerpiece of my day trip to Narva from Tallinn, and I really enjoyed the experience. But I do think that the presentation is in need of some improvement.
Oh and by the way, last year on Victory Day the director of the Narva Museum (of which Narva Castle is a part) hung a giant anti-Putin banner on the wall of the castle that faces Russia. The banner accused Putin of being a war criminal. For this, Russia has issued a warrant for her arrest - but I seriously doubt that Estonia will be extraditing her anytime soon. She’s a bit of a bad-ass in my book, which in itself is a reason to visit her museum.
