点评:This museum is both charming and excellent! The history of lacemaking machines and the brilliant and highly knowledgeable volunteers who showed us the biggest machine actually working making and awesome noise whilst explaining how the machine was dismantled and reassembled to get it through the doors in the 60s (the lovely chap telling us this was actually one of the engineers who did this!). You really understand the roots of our modern computerised mechanised world by visiting this place.
Then after various detours to look at cool old machines and the original wrought iron London Victoria line tube tunnel pieces we went to the pump house where we encountered the inimitable Roger, he gave us the option of the basic or deluxe tour, obviously it had to be the deluxe! He took us through the entire history of pre-industrialisation into steam and then electricity and the telegraph with wit and aplomb.
He was a delight and we had a funny, fun and fact packed tour which I shall be recommending to everyone I can bend the ear of :) then we had an extremely interesting desert in the Victorian kitchen where the lovely lady (no badge so not sure of her name) gave us an extremely informative and hilarious tour of the state of women’s lives through the last few hundred years.
ONLY £4!! I can’t believe it! We didn’t even get to the natural history museum because we had so much fun and it would have been a bargain at twice the price :)
A must if you go to Nottingham.
