Concern about the monkey and animal welfare

点评：I visited Zakir Wildlife in Zanzibar and unfortunately left very upset and concerned about the treatment of the animals.
There was a monkey there with a large, clearly visible wound on her tail. What concerned me even more was her reaction to the handler. She appeared very scared of him, while at the same time she was extremely gentle and friendly with us. She willingly came to us, lay down, and allowed us to cuddle and interact with her. The contrast between how comfortable she was with visitors and how frightened she appeared around the handler was very disturbing to witness.
We asked the staff directly why the monkey was injured and why she was not receiving treatment. We did not receive a clear or convincing answer.
Afterwards, we contacted Zakir Wildlife through Instagram because we were genuinely concerned about her welfare. They told us that the monkey was at the vet.
It has now been about a month, and we have no clear information about what happened to her or whether she actually received proper treatment.
I sincerely hope she is alive, safe, and receiving veterinary care. However, the lack of transparency and the original condition of the animal are extremely concerning.
I am leaving this review because wildlife tourism should be about protecting and caring for animals, not simply allowing tourists to interact with them. If an animal has a serious visible wound, visitors deserve a clear explanation that appropriate veterinary care is being provided.
I strongly encourage anyone considering visiting to ask questions about the animals’ welfare and veterinary care before supporting this place.
