Christmas Day re-enactment of George Washington's historical crossing here!
Washington Crossing State Park的点评
点评:We visit this historic park many times during the year, but were here today for the annual re-enactment of George Washington Crossing the Delaware River. After all the years of living in this area, this was the first time we ever visited for this very popular and very packed event that takes place on both sides of the Delaware River with Washington leaving the Pennsylvania side to the NJ side. It is very crowded so parking is tight. You have to park along the roadways through the park, although there are some lots if you arrive early. There will be a walk to the actual riverside that will be a bit tough for those with ambulation difficulties. The historic Johnson Ferry house, once a farmhouse and very likely used by Washinton during the crossing. was open for free cups of hot cider and a doughnut. The river happened to have rough currents and was high today and the crossing looked unlikely, but they finally did it marked by artillery fire. Imagine how it was for Washington and his men! This was really great on a relatively mild winter day. It will be a part of our annual event on Christmas Day, but the park is beautiful to visit at any time of the year with a vistor's center that has regular historical programs.
