点评：I’ve now been to a few events at HunterGatherCook, but the Matt Blak feast night was something else entirely.
The setting alone is worth the visit — the barn and surrounding location are absolutely spectacular, with that perfect mix of rustic charm and atmosphere that makes you feel like you’ve stumbled across something really special. But then the food arrives… and it completely steals the show. Every dish was off-the-scale good — bold, generous, and packed with flavour in a way that only comes from cooking over fire or in Matt’s case underground oven with real skill.
What really elevates the whole experience though is the people. The team were incredibly friendly, relaxed, and genuinely keen to chat — not just serve and disappear. The banquet-style format works brilliantly too; it creates a really social, shared experience where you end up talking to everyone around you, swapping reactions to each dish as it lands.
A real highlight was how the food and cooking methods were explained throughout the evening. It added so much depth to the experience and made you appreciate not just what you were eating, but the craft behind it.
Matt Blak himself was an absolute gent — clearly hugely talented but also warm, humble, and generous with his time. And Nick, the owner, set the tone perfectly — making everyone feel welcome and going out of his way to speak to guests throughout the night, which doesn’t go unnoticed.
When you put it all together — the setting, the food, the people, the atmosphere — it’s genuinely incredible value for money. One of those rare experiences where you leave already thinking about when you can come back.
I’ll 100% be back for another event.
