点评:We were nervous in the run up to our visit what with all the negative reviews of late. But at the end, we all actually had a wonderful time. The kids loved it. Though, it was a bit boring in places.
We were a group of four adults and two kids and we arrived in ample time before our slot and while we found the accessible parking not to be obvious, we were directed by the car park staff when asked and we parked up and it was then a short walk to the entrance. The weather was drizzly today, but everything is mostly indoors so all good. Still recommend wrapping up warm just in case.
The set up, ambience, decor is absolutely stunning. All very well done. We did a Father Christmas themed experience last year which we thoughy was good, but Lapland Manchester took if to the next level. The actors are fabulous. We checked in and the little folk received their passports and a bag of jingles (coins to exchange for food or anything in the shops). I thought this was a brilliant idea as it also gave the little ones a chance to manage their coins and see if they had enough jingles to purchase what they wanted and spread it out or rationalise. You have to pay for your jingles...it really should be part of the price of the ticket if not only £10 to £15.
The actor at reception did give us a eyeroll towards the end which I caught and that wasn't a great first impression of what was to come.
We waited around and visited the shops before we headed into the first act, and once there we were waited and once it started it went on for a rather long time, about 20 mins, it got boring. Big and little folk alike were looking bored.
Next stop was the forest... we were ...well I say greeted loosely by Pebbles who checked our passports and just said "to the left". Very blunt. No cheery-hi. Just "to the left".
The forest with Eeko was a tad bit boring and I felt it went on a bit too long.
Next stop the Toy Factory and this is where we felt it picked up and the kids didn't look as bored. It was interactive as we got to build toys, although, we ended up with something that looked like a seal as the ears wouldn't velcro on and kept falling off as did the tail.
Next stop, the Mother Christmases kitchen, to be honest I didn't even listen to most of what was said and performed here, I'm not sure why, as the set up waw fantastic. But the gingerbread house decorating was great. Kids enjoyed it. They wolfed them down as we wait for lunch as they were very hungry by the time we reached the Elven forest (our slot was 10.30am).
Next stop the lunch break was in the Elven Forest, there are shops, the post office and an ice rink. Seating is limited but we managed to find a spot easily.
The food and drink here is expensive. I had initially wanted to bring food and drink in but read you couldn't. So didn’t, only to find people did bring in their own snacks and drinks.
We bought the food in waves, for a tea, lapland hot chocolate and 2 XXL hotdogs and some chips it was £45. It was a very nice brackwurst though. Food served very quickly. I ordered pull pork fries and was given loaded bacon as the cashier logged the wrong item. Also, they were supposed to be fries. They aren't fries, they are but chunky chips.
The hot chocolate is expensive but very yummy, not sure what flavour the cream was bit it was a delight. The tea was very nice too, even though it was just a everyday tea.
The postoffice was great, writing letters to Santa.
There was a technical delay in "seeing the reindeers" which are actually just animatronics and not the real deal like advertised on their website. Though, I totally understand that companies are trying to use live animals less for entertainment like this for concerns of animal welfare, but I found it totally bizarre, and still thought there would be real reindeer in the next part, given the fact you queue up for a bag of FEED. I also assumed this bag of feed would of been included in the ticket price....it isn't. We paid nearly £200 per kid yet, and nearly £200 per adult to visit on the day we visited...and no FEED included??
You pay £6 for this feed and there are no reindeers to feed with it. Felt like an absolute cheeky money grab. What are we buying feed for? It explicitly says not for human consumption as well, then they sprinkle it with some green stuff. We have two bags of feed for nothing, and no purpose... costing £12! Is the idea to stick this with the milk and mince pies at home? Depending on how many kids people have...this is £6 a bag for the visual idea of it.
In our experience, we booked it so the Little Folk had 25 jingles each to spend. At the price everyone pays per ticket, Big and Little Folk should also get jingles included in their experience in my opinion, even if it is only £10 or £15. And definitely the Little ones should get q bag of feed included.
I read afterward our experience that someone wrote a review for the experience in the Manchester Evening News. They mentioned they had 10 photo opportunities and purchased a photo bundle? We only saw one professional photo stop which was by a sleigh in the reindeer/feed station. Did we miss 9 stops? If so, HOW?
The Little Folk receives a toy at the end of the experience. We were expecting polar bears as this is what was mentioned at the toy factory, but the kids received huskies, which they loved.
The staff in the shops are a little clueless and cannot answer basic questions about stock. I asked one in the Elven Forest where we had lunch, were there more shops beyond this point or if this was the main shop and were the rest smaller offering less options. I was told yes, that the Elven one was the main one with the most choice...Only to find at the very end, a massive shop, and obviously not many jingles left so you have to spend even more cash.
We exited to blue skies and two bags of unused feed - yes, this became a gripe for the day! Ha ha
I thought the experience was great at the point of building in the Toy Factory. That was the turning point.
For others yet to visit, I think Big and Little Folk would enjoy it overall, but it is very expensive for what it is, and I still can't get over the pointless bag of feed you pay for. You might want to skip this and save yourself £6 per child.
The casting of the performance actors is very interesting as it obvious. You will only find diversity serving you in the shops. I found this disappointing to notice this.
