If the Cable Car isn’t running, don’t bother

点评：I travelled to Mount Etna on April 22nd. Fascinating place and well worth a visit.
I knew before travelling that the cable car was out of service for maintenance and would be replaced by 4x4s upto the top cable car station at 2500m.
The website misleading suggests you can get to 3000m for €50 which you can’t.
At the bottom I advised that you can buy a ticket for €54 which will get you to 2500m. There you can decide if you wish to travel further to 3000m on a Snowcat for another €46 for which you’ll need a guide. Or you can purchase the combined ticket at the bottom. I decided to see what was at 2500m before committing further.
I waited an hour in a queue to get a 4x4 and then travelled up to 2500m. There, there is a small cafe but that’s it. There’s no signposting, no organisation and no nearby craters to visit.
I then enquired about paying the further €46 to travel to 3000m on a Snowcat with a guide and was told they were finished for the day. It was 11.30am. We also asked if a guide was available so that I and a few others could trek and again told no.
I went on a small walk myself and imagine to my surprise at least two Snowcats heading up the mountain with no-one in!
I headed back down the mountain and visited the Silvestri craters near the car park instead. That was a further €5!!! Not included in the €50 ticket!!!
In short, they are not prepared if the cable car isn’t running or for significant numbers in early season. Organisation is poor and from what I can see, you pay more for a worse service. I would suggest just paying the €5 to visit the Silvestri craters.

我只好下山，转而参观了停车场附近的西尔维斯特里火山口。这又花了 5 欧元！！！50 欧元的门票里不包含这部分！！！
总之，如果缆车停运或者旺季初期游客众多，他们根本没有做好准备。组织工作很差，在我看来，你花更多的钱却享受不到更好的服务。我建议大家只需支付 5 欧元去参观西尔维斯特里火山口就行了。
