An engaging lunchtime experience that left us with a pleasant, lasting memory.

点评:After a morning spent amidst the wonders of Sigiriya, we were taken to experience a piece of life with the residents of a small local farm. The journey involved a ride along a dirt track, a boat trip across a large pond, and — most interestingly — time spent at the farmhouse itself. We gathered the vegetables needed for lunch (in fact some volunteers from our group helped with the picking), watched the food being prepared (we were amazed by the speed of the process), and finally enjoyed the meal, which was served buffet-style.
As you might imagine, the experience was highly engaging and left us with a pleasant, lasting memory.
While at the house, we also noticed a wooden shelter built on a nearby tree. Having seen a similar structure in Kerala (India), I asked if it was used for protection against elephants; I was told that it was, given the not-uncommon occurrence of elephants straying from the nearby nature park.
I am not giving the maximum score, because of the discomfort experienced (not just by me, but by everyone in the group) regarding the transport to and from the farm, which was carried out using noisy, polluting motorized carts.
