点评：One of the most memorable experiences of my trip to Sri Lanka was visiting Madaduwa Cinnamon Island to discover how cinnamon is traditionally grown, harvested, processed, and prepared.
The journey itself was beautiful. Traveling by boat through the water, surrounded by lush vegetation and distinctive mangrove trees, felt like entering a completely different world. The landscape, the quietness of the water, and the extraordinary nature around the island made the experience special even before arriving.
What touched me most was meeting a very elderly local man who patiently demonstrated the traditional process of preparing cinnamon. Watching him work with such knowledge and experience made me think about how much cultural heritage can be carried in a simple material—and how easily these skills could disappear if they are not passed from one generation to the next.
He even made a beautiful hand fan for me from natural leaves, completely by hand. That small gesture became one of my favorite memories of the trip.
The island was also filled with the distinctive fragrance of local flowers and plants, creating an atmosphere that was almost impossible to capture in photographs.
As someone who has spent many years working with textiles, sourcing, craftsmanship, and luxury materials, I always find these experiences particularly meaningful. They remind me that behind every natural material there is a story: a place, a person, a tradition, and generations of knowledge.
