点评：An unforgettable, soul-touching week at Le Gargantua!
As a woman of the exact same age, I felt an instant and profound connection with Marlene. 19 years ago, with incredible courage she bought this nearly abandoned old farmhouse in a tiny village of only 200 people. With sheer grit and a pair of hardworking hands, she completely rebuilt it from the ground up into this breathtaking sanctuary.

What moves me the most is watching her as an incredible single mother. She is an exceptionally talented cook with phenomenal culinary skills—delivering a flawless, zero-complaint experience without a fancy culinary school diploma, relying purely on family recipes passed down from her mother and grandmother to capture the true, comforting warmth of authentic French home-style cooking. She took that bold first step and single-handedly raised her two wonderful daughters (now 17 and 21), who work side-by-side with her, clearing tables and helping out with such quiet grace. Seeing how deeply those girls admire and respect their mother brought tears to my eyes.
Over these five days as her guests, she took such incredible care of us in every possible way. From guiding us through their charming little village and touring local spots to treating us with so much genuine kindness—it was beyond touching. When it was time to leave, she even saw us off at the train station and surprised us with thoughtful little gifts!
The entire experience was pure magic. From baking fresh baguettes from scratch, shopping for hyper-local ingredients at vibrant French markets, to savoring incredible dishes like slow-braised rabbit, seabream with saffron risotto, and raspberry soufflés—every single moment was crafted with love. Even the house pets added so much warmth: Motzah, the sweet dog on a strict liver diet whom Marlene lovingly asks guests to "hug instead of feed," and Mrs PepperPot, the clever cat who tries to claim your bed!
This is such a loving, kind, and wonderful family through and through. Marlene works nine months out of the year to pour her heart into welcoming guests from all over the world, then takes December and January completely off to rest and cherish her family. She proves that true success isn't about massive corporate empires; it's about a woman who took a hand of difficult cards, turned them into a royal flush, and built a masterpiece of a life with her own two hands.
If I could give this 10 hearts out of 10, I would! I truly hope more people discover and support her. If you ever get the chance to stay here, do not hesitate—five stars (or ten!) will never be enough!
