点评:Was gifted a Steam Experience Day at Christmas and didn’t know what to expect. It was a brilliant day at the oldest working engine of its type in the world still in its original location. Built in the early 1800s it was originally used to lift water to the highest point on the Kennet and Avon canal.
An early start at 7am (on one of the hottest days of the year) to help Euan and Brian rake out, set and fire the 127 year-old boiler. A breakfast was then provided as other volunteers began to arrive. I was hosted by Carol who did an amazing job explaining the intricacies of the engines and the wider site. I spent more than 8 hours on site and each of the volunteers I spent time with were helpful and generous with their knowledge. Highlights included seeing areas not open to the public like the under croft and also ‘driving’ one of the engines which really requires 3 hands and two pairs of eyes!
I can’t recommend the Steam Experience Day highly enough.
