A fascinating place with a Heyerdahl connection

点评：We recently revisited Colla Micheri, having first visited years ago. On that first visit, we had the opportunity to be shown around by Bjørn Heyerdahl, Thor Heyerdahl’s son, who was known as “Bamse”. He showed us his father’s resting place and told us enthusiastically about some of his own projects around Colla Micheri. There are still visible traces of several of them around the village.
Today, the urn of Thor Heyerdahl has been moved to Larvik, but his former resting place can still be found by following the trail towards the ruins of the old windmill above Colla Micheri.
The ruined windmill itself is worth the short walk. Perched above the village, its remains and commanding position provide a great view of the surrounding landscape and coastline. It adds another interesting historical layer to an already fascinating place.
It is easy to understand why Thor Heyerdahl fell in love with Colla Micheri. The village has a unique atmosphere, beautiful surroundings and an unusually strong connection to one of Norway’s most famous explorers.
A fascinating place to visit, and a particularly good destination for introducing children or relatives to the story and legacy of Thor Heyerdahl.
