A nice visit but overpriced
Mount Grace Priory, House and Gardens的点评
点评:The gardens here are absolutely stunning and well worth viewing in spring. There was such gorgeous colours in the flowers, the water had ducklings in and the garden is peaceful and relaxing. The ruins themselves have a reconstructed monks house and this was brilliant. It was enjoyable to go around and get a real feel for how things were, and there’s a really interesting tree you can go in too.
However, the house itself is a real disappointment. It feels like it’s half done, as you’ve got two rooms downstairs which are finished and then the upper floors are rooms with some furniture in or just bare empty unfurnished rooms. There’s some interesting information about the history of the monetary and a good video to watch.
We tried to visit the cafe when we arrived but after ten minutes waiting without moving we ran out of patience and gave up which was a shame as the seating area outside in the sun was lovely.
My real issue with this place is its cost. We spent £4 to park, and £29 to get in for 2 adults to spend about an hour or so at the site. Given that none of the three parts of the site take long to visit, parking should be offered at different rates, and an entrance fee of £10/adult feels more appropriate to the offering.
Staff were really friendly and knowledgeable but unfortunately it’s not good value for money, in my opinion, compared to other sites.
