Great Small Museum on site of first iron forge in the Upper Peninsula
Michigan Iron Industry Museum的点评
点评:The Michigan Iron Industry Museum was a great place to learn more about iron mining in Michigan and the first iron forge in the upper peninsula, the Carp River Forge. The Museum is located on the site of the Carp River Forge and while there are no visible above-ground remains, you can see artifacts from excavations of the area and watch an interesting movie about life working in these mines. The original Jackson Mine site is a few miles away in Nauganee.
There is also a reading room and small bookstore if more information is desired. The staff also told us that on request, you can also view a movie about the process of smelting iron; we did not have time to see that during this visit.
We HIGHLY recommend this Museum to anyone who wants a broader picture of how our country industrialized and the effect this had on the people involved.
