点评：During my recent trip to Shanghai, I visited 1000 Trees (Tian’an Qianshu), a one‑of‑a‑kind landmark beside Suzhou Creek . It left me a deep‑rooted impression far beyond ordinary shopping malls.
Designed by British architect Thomas Heatherwick, the building draws inspiration from Huangshan Mountains and the ancient Hanging Gardens of Babylon. Hundreds of white concrete columns stand in uneven heights, with trees and shrubs planted on their top pots. Seen from Changhua Road Bridge, the whole structure looks like a green mountain rising along the riverbank, mixing modern architecture with natural greenery perfectly .
I wandered along the Suzhou Creek waterfront first. The calm river reflects the unique building, making a peaceful contrast to the busy city outside. Walking into the mall, I was surprised to find green plants everywhere on different floors. The indoor space combines fashionable boutiques, cozy cafes and restaurants. I rested in a rooftop café, enjoying the breeze and overlooking the layered forest‑like building.
What touches me most is the perfect harmony between nature and urban life. Unlike tall glass skyscrapers in downtown Shanghai, 1000 Trees brings thousands of plants into a commercial building, creating a floating forest in the city . In the evening, lights turn on, and every tree on the columns glows softly, looking extremely fantastic.
This trip to 1000 Trees teaches me that modern architecture does not have to be cold and mechanical. It can embrace nature, bringing peace and beauty to city‑dwellers. It is not merely a shopping centre, but an amazing work of art, showing a creative way to balance city development and environmental protection. It is definitely a worthwhile spot to visit for travellers who want to see a different side of Shanghai.
