点评:We visited the REP for the first time to see their production of A Christmas Carol.
What a wonderful little theatre. A real, undiscovered gem of a place with a good viewing seating arena and stage. The bar area is nice, if a little small but still offers a variety of drinks and snacks.
For an amateur dramatic society, the production was excellent. Really first class. The stage setting, lighting effects were quite basic but were utilised fully and cleverly to perfectly embellish the script and story. The costumes were contemporary with the time and the acting and casting really superb. Mark Desebrock, who performed as Fezziwig and The Ghost of Christmas Present, was particularly charismatic and fun, but all the cast were creditable and polished.
The Huntley & Palmer slant to Scrooges background and upbringing was a cheeky nod to the neighbourhood and Reading’s heritage as was the frequent name dropping of local landmarks but it worked and added a refreshing twist.
So bravo to all and thank you for an enjoyable evening. You certainly weren’t taking the biscuit!
