点评:Lourmarin is an utterly charming village located in beautiful Provençal countryside. The walk to the cemetery from the parking downtown is pleasant and takes you past a lovely chateau-museum. Those who are disappointed by the modest nature of Camus' grave are, I think, wrongly (if understandably) disappointed. For those of us who have read and treasured his work the modesty (a low tombstone, overgrown with plants, littered with annotated rocks and other debris from admirers) is absolutely fitting, and indeed quite moving. The contrast with, say, visiting Jean Giono's grave in Manosque is quite telling. Giono was a 20th century writer from Provence, much admired, but no philosopher. And his grave, while fine as graves go, is spoiled by the bourgeois grandeur and the inclusion of an engraved quote. Camus resisted the idea that his writing was "existential" but it nonetheless underscores the here-and-now of our lives. His life ended, and what remains is what awaits us all, a descent into oblivion. But while were are here-and-now, we should live. And a visit to his grave, in a way, emphasizes the point that we are alive, that we feel, that we exist, and that at some point we will not.
