A Destination Dive: Conservation, Science, and the Best Shore Diving in St. Thomas

点评：Unequivocally the best shore diving on St. Thomas and a strong contender for the best diving in the USVI overall. Whether you have never dived before or are an Advanced diver, this spot is a must-visit.
The Operation & Staff
As of 2025, the Coki Beach dive shack is now run by the CWORI team (who operate Coral World next door). This transition to an SSI shop has been incredible, opening up access to private reefs previously unreachable. The staff is the heartbeat of this place. The "dream team," Erika and Jason (congrats on the engagement!), pour their souls into the operation. From rental gear to briefings, their passion is infectious.
Conservation & Science
This isn't just a dive shop; it is a hub for reef conservation. The reefs here are meticulously kept and healthy. Erika, the Chief Dive Safety Officer, actually took us behind the scenes to see their dry-land lab where they treat sick coral and grow new samples. You aren't just looking at fish; you are diving among active scientific implantation farms where they are regrowing the reef. It is a unique experience to see their "underwater farms" alongside the wild reef.
The Dives
We did multiple dives, including a Diver Propulsion Vehicle (DPV) certification. Because of their scientific resources, we used high-end Blacktip Tech DPVs, which was a blast.
Conditions: Warm (80.6°F in Jan), great visibility, and non-existent currents.
The Reef: Two main reefs (Left and Right) ranging from 20ft to 60ft.
Wildlife: We saw sea turtles, barracudas, tarpon, changing squid, and countless tropical fish.
Highlight: During our DPV dive to a further, wilder reef, we helped manage the invasive population by spearing 4 lionfish and feeding them to the eels—an incredibly fulfilling circle-of-life experience.
I was so impressed by the operation, the mission, and the people that I now consider this a "Destination Dive" in the USVI. I will be thinking about these memories for years to come.
