Ashby De La Zouch Castle的点评
点评：I decided to join English Heritage after a ew years of absence, as they currently have a 25% discount on annual memberships.
Ashby Castle is just a few miles from where I live, so I have know the building all of my life.
It's a beautiful romantic ruin as it's the setting in the grounds in which it sits.
There is an underground tunnel to explore, plus a couple of ruined buildings in two corners of the grounds.
Unfortunately the top of the tower was closed due to erosion of the stone steps. The tower has been closed for six months as English Heritage has had its funding cut. You can climb just over half way, but the views are not as good as from the open roof, which afforded the earth works of the site and also views of the town centre.
There are toilet facilities on site, and although there is no cafe, hot drinks are provided as well as ice cream.
The ticket office is also the gift shop and i recommend the all butter curds that are for sale.
There is no parking available, but there is a council car park just a short walk away.
If you are passing through the town, the castle is well worth a visit.
