点评:My cousin, her husband, and I visited Standley Chasm on Tuesday, 28th April, 2026, and it was a fantastic experience from start to finish.
Our guide and driver from Alice Holiday Tours, Mr. Mahesh Mahendra, was exceptional—professional, friendly, and very knowledgeable.
A standout moment of our day was the tea-time picnic Mahesh prepared for us just before we arrived at the chasm. It was such a thoughtful touch to enjoy tea and snacks in the beautiful Red Centre surroundings; it really made the tour feel personal and well-catered.
The walk from the entrance to the chasm itself is beautiful but rugged. You follow a natural creek bed along a rocky trail with many fallen rocks, which really highlights the ancient, raw power of the landscape. As our visit was during midday, the 80-metre-high vertical sandstone walls, or you can call it an an 80-metre gorge or the traditional name Angkerle Atwatye, will "glow" that’s when the sun hits the chasm floor and turns the walls a brilliant orange.
Angkerle Atwatye, meaning "Gap of Water" is a sacred site to the Western Arrernte people.
On our way back down from the chasm, we even encountered several tourists painting the scenery along the trail. Seeing them capture the vibrant colours of the rock walls and ghost gums added a lovely, artistic atmosphere to the walk.
Between the great service, the delightful picnic, and the spectacular views, it was a perfect day.
Do wear a comfortable pair of walking shoes as the walking paths can be quite rugged.
