点评：Visited the Tombstone Park twice in late June- early July while driving the Dempster Highway all the way to Tuktoyaktuk. The Visitor Centre was really great - not only great resources available, local knowledge on what to expect on hikes and in the northern parts of the park, but also nice clean toilets, hot tea and somewhere to rest or wait out bad weather, and a campground nearby. We didn’t stay overnight, just did day hikes from the visitor centre. Weather can be very capricious and unpredictable in this area. On the way North, we had a lot of rain, and so only did two short walking trails that seemed manageable: Tädèhchą -Beaver Pond Interpretive Trail and Dëchin Käk - Arctic Plain Interpretive Loop that required of us to go to the campground and start from there. Despite a lot of rain, both trails were really pretty and very pleasant to stretch our legs. I especially enjoyed all the beautiful wild flowers along the trails. We saw a big bear paw-print in the mud on the Beaver Pond trail but no bears. On the way back South, we wanted to do a longer hike, and again, the weather was quite rainy, so we ended up waiting for the rain to ease off at the parking lot of Goldensides for probably close to 30 mins. After that we decided to walk at least a little bit, but were lucky enough that the rain stopped as we were hiking, and we ended up at the end of the trail in beautiful sunshine; it started raining again when we were walking towards the parking lot on the way back. In other words, be prepared for rain, and hope for some sunshine. Goldensides was a stunning hike, really highly recommended. It’s only 6km long and took us approx 1.5 hrs there and back with some uphill walking that could be quite tiring. The views from everywhere on this trail were beautiful, as were the abundant wild flowers.
Driving further North, we saw even more of the beautiful rugged Tombstone from the highway. There are a few really nice spots on the side of the road to stop and enjoy the view, try walking on the spongy tundra (we were encouraged by the park staff to give it a go) or watch some wildlife (i.e. nice arctic swans with babies at Two Moose Lake). If going hiking, make sure you have hiking footwear and a bear spray as it is grizzly country. No admission fees.
All in all, a real gem of the Yukon. Highly recommended!
