点评:Getting tickets for this museum is like winning the National Lottery. On Saturday morning, my wife attempted book on-line, first you have to choose a two-hour visit time slot which can be up to five days in advance. However, many are fully booked within minutes of being released. Luckily, my wife got a slot on the Tuesday afternoon at 4:30. Then she had to complete a visitors form with her Chinese ID card details. So far great, but my ID is a UK passport, and the site wouldn’t accept that. My wife phoned and was told that if we rolled up before 4 o’clock of Tuesday there may, if we were very luck, be a spare ticket for me.
On Tuesday afternoon at a quarter to four, after visiting the XiYing Film Museum (TA reviewed) in the morning, we presented ourselves at the ticket office and with great solemnity were handed two tickets for the 4:30 two-hour visiting slot.
We then joined one of the two already 50-metre-long queues, each of which grew about to about 200 metres while we waited until the magic entry time when we all shuffled forward and up the entry steps, through the ticket and security barriers and into museum. It was already crowded.
At the reception desk I got an English language plan and a brief write-up of the museum. You can get an interpreter service for a guided tour.
Now we just followed the throng, we shuffled past display cases of pots, plates, figurines of gods, Buddha, model horses, pigs, and oxen to name but a few.
To be honest, I’m not very interested in these ancient artefacts. My wife was also running out of steam, she’d admired the Buddha statues and the old pots and plates resembled the ones in her kitchen. So, after an hour or so of jostling, and ducking and diving we called it a day and headed weary legged to the exit.
There we got a cab to take us to the Hua Qing Palace (TA reviewed) to see A Song of Everlasting Sorrow show (TA reviewed) as the weather was warm and sunny.
