点评:Zenkoji was a highlight of my time in Nagano. The approach is a wide stone-paved path lined with shops and hung with rows of paper lanterns, leading toward the huge wooden gate. Beyond it, the main hall is impressive, with layered, curved roofs and beautiful gold details. I also loved the large bronze statue with a red bib, set on an old carved stone base among the autumn trees.
Visiting in the autumn, the ginkgo leaves and cool air made the grounds feel calm and photogenic, even with a steady stream of visitors. Inside the temple shop, there is a wide choice of omamori charms for health, long life, good fortune and victory in many colors, priced around ¥600-800, with English labels on the display, which made choosing easy. I noticed a ramp sign near the main hall and a “do not feed the pigeons” sign in the grounds.
