点评：Out of all the five palace complexes that can be seen in Seoul, this is an excellent introduction. It is the oldest having been first established in 1392 although almost everything available to see today is a reconstruction from various periods. It is by some distance the most popular and a favourite of tour groups. The wearing of traditional Hanok dress is a popular pastime for many visitors and there are a plethora of places where these can be hired if so desired.
There is a guided tour available in English available at 11.00 daily although its real value is questionable. There is no pre-booking, just turn up at a designated place and as a consequence, numbers are unwieldy. There are a couple of events to see early in the day, the smaller military training parade which takes place at 9.30 and the larger more elaborate changing of the guard at 10am. Both these events take place outside the complex near to the ticket office so it is worth delaying your entry to around 10.30 am to get a better view.
In terms of navigation around the large site, signage is minimal, sadly almost all of the buildings are closed with a few exceptions and in many respects a visit to Changdeokgung is much more rewarding. However the two museums the National Palace Museum and National Folk Museum in close proximity are both worth a visit in their own right and should be seen.
