点评:Singapore Zoo is an amazing place to visit, especially if you’re travelling with kids. There’s plenty to explore, and you can easily spend several hours here. However, a little planning can make your visit much more comfortable, particularly if you’re visiting with a toddler.
Getting to Singapore Zoo
Singapore Zoo is located in the Mandai area, which is quite far from central Singapore. You can reach the area using public transport, including the MRT and bus connections, but we decided to take a cab for convenience.
If you’re travelling with family or a group of 3–4 people, I would suggest checking the Zig app for cab bookings. Depending on the time and demand, fares can vary, so it’s worth comparing your options before booking.
Best Time to Visit
We visited in October and reached the zoo around noon. While we had a great time, the heat and humidity made walking around quite tiring.
My biggest recommendation is to start early in the morning. Singapore Zoo is largely an open-air attraction, and it can feel much hotter than places like Gardens by the Bay.
If you’re visiting with children, starting early will give you more time to explore before the heat becomes uncomfortable.
Getting Around the Zoo
The zoo is quite large, so walking everywhere can be tiring, especially with young children. Make good use of the tram service, and get off at the designated stops to explore different sections.
Plan your route in advance so you don’t end up walking back and forth unnecessarily.
Kids’ Play Area and Facilities
There’s a children’s play area near Tram Station 4, which is a good place to take a break if you’re travelling with kids. You’ll find a play area, food options, ice cream and cold drinks nearby. There is also a butterfly attraction in this area.
This section can be useful when children need a break from walking around and looking at animals.
Food Options – Important for Indian Vegetarians
Food planning is something Indian vegetarian visitors should keep in mind.
There is a food court near Tram Station 1, close to the orangutan exhibit. You’ll find some food options there, but the prices can be on the expensive side. During our visit, the main vegetarian option we noticed was biryani, which didn’t seem particularly appealing in the heat.
Near the zoo entrance, you’ll also find options such as McDonald’s, KFC, Food Republic and 7-Eleven. However, vegetarian choices at some of these places may be limited.
My suggestion for Indian vegetarians: Check the available food options beforehand and consider eating a proper meal before entering the zoo. Don’t assume you’ll find plenty of vegetarian or Indian food inside.
Staying Hydrated
Singapore’s heat and humidity can make you thirsty very quickly, so carry a reusable water bottle and drink water regularly.
We also found the iJooz orange juice vending machines useful for a refreshing drink during the day.
Remember to carry sunscreen and sunglasses as well.
Strollers and Travelling with Toddlers
If you’re travelling with a toddler, I would strongly recommend bringing your own stroller if possible.
Rental strollers and carts can be expensive, and availability may be limited. Having your own stroller makes it easier for your child to rest while you continue exploring.
Also, don’t underestimate the walking involved. Even with the tram, you’ll still need to walk quite a bit.
Getting Back from Singapore Zoo
After spending a few hours exploring the zoo, you might be quite tired, especially if you’re travelling with kids.
If you don’t want to take the bus, you’ll find larger private vehicles, including luxury cars, available near the zoo entrance. During our visit, we saw options costing around SGD 48. These may be worth considering if you’re travelling in a group, but we found them quite expensive and decided not to take one.
Instead, we booked a cab through the Zig app. It took around 10–15 minutes for our cab to arrive, but the wait was worth it.
Pro tip: If you’re travelling as a family or in a group of 3–4 people, check the Zig app and compare fares before deciding on your return transport. After walking around the zoo for hours, having a cab pick you up can be much more comfortable than navigating public transport.
Shopping After the Zoo – IMM Outlet Mall
Another useful tip: IMM Outlet Mall can be a good shopping stop after your zoo visit.
We went to IMM in the evening after visiting the zoo. The mall has outlet stores, including Charles & Keith and other brands, so it can be a good option if you want to combine sightseeing with shopping.
Check the route and travel time beforehand to see whether it fits your plans, especially if you’re travelling with a toddler and need to manage meal times and naps.
Visiting Bird Paradise as Well?
If you’re planning to visit Bird Paradise on the same trip, check the latest shuttle and transport arrangements between the Mandai attractions before your visit. This will help you plan your route and avoid unnecessary walking.
Food Republic和7-Eleven。
