点评：One of India’s most iconic landmarks, the City Palace in Udaipur truly lives up to the hype. From the moment you step in, you’re surrounded by intricate carvings and stunning paintings—many of which have been beautifully preserved for over 400 years.
Also known as Raj Mahal, the City Palace isn’t just one structure but a sprawling complex built over centuries by the rulers of the Mewar dynasty. Perched on the eastern banks of Lake Pichola, it’s actually a series of interconnected palaces, each with its own charm and story to tell.
Located in the heart of Udaipur’s old city, the City Palace is easy to get to and well-organized for visitors. You’ll need to purchase an entry ticket, and I’d highly recommend hiring a guide—it made a huge difference for us. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and also went out of his way to help my senior citizen dad navigate the palace comfortably. There’s even an elevator that takes you to the upper floors, which is a big plus.
Beyond the architecture and history, the palace complex has plenty to explore. There are restaurants where you can pause and soak in the views, along with charming shops selling everything from traditional bandhani sarees to beautifully crafted Rajasthani bedspreads and artwork—perfect if you’re looking to take a piece of Udaipur home with you.
