点评:I can’t say I enjoyed visiting the museum, but I believe it was important to do so.
It was traumatising. Our guides grandfather died in the S21 prison and her mother tortured there, and now suffers from PTSD. So our experience included first hand emotion and stories.
The pictures in the museum, the artefact's and the tools used for torture all formed a very emotional story.
I stood in one of the original cells, which could contain 6 or above prisoners. It was claustrophobic, hot, and tiny. I can’t even imagine the suffering people went through.
We were blessed enough to meet 2x of the 4x surviving children and 1x of the surviving adults (now in his 90’s) from S21.
For them to sit across from the cells they were held in, and tortured in must of taken immense bravery. I was crying throughout the tour, but meeting them overwhelmed me with emotion.
We purchased each of their books, to learn more about their experience, but also to provide financial support in a small way to the survivors.
A must visit. Everyone should understand the impact of genocide, and be appalled by it, to help reduce the potential for horrendous things like this happening in the future.
