A Steep Trail Up to the Lighthouse but Worth a Visit

点评：The walk up to historic Seal Rocks Lighthouse walk was a fun thing to do. Built in 1875, the lighthouse is still working and has been operational for 150 years.
You can’t drive right up to it. Instead you leave your car at the small carpark at the end of Kinka Road and walk through light bushland.
The first part of the walk is along a paved path and is fairly easy. It’s also very scenic as you pass two dramatic gorges where the ocean washes through.
The second part of the walk is a short but very steep climb up to the lighthouse itself.
The view from here is panoramic, with 360 degree views. The most magnificent view looked right down the length of Lighthouse Beach.
You can climb the lighthouse’s external stairs for an even higher view. A sign at the bottom warns people about strong gusts and they weren’t wrong. It was very windy up the top.
If you have the time, there are a series of information boards around the base of the lighthouse and they make for interesting reading. One has a map showing when the various shipwrecks occurred over the years. The most interesting of these was the SS Catterthun which struck the reef directly below the lighthouse in 1895. If you look down, you can imagine how dangerous it must have been on a dark stormy night. The Captain and two officers were washed overboard by a wave and 31 lives were lost along with a cargo of 9,000 gold sovereigns.
Apart from the lighthouse, there are several secluded and unspoiled beaches here, headland lookouts, and a rugged coastline.
