点评:The Franklin on Shawmut has been one of the best kept secrets, or hidden gems, that I can think of. Small, intimate, a neighborhood type place for late night food after being out at clubs or shows, it's been my go-to place for over a decade. Their mussels are legendary (I literally dream about them, and tell everyone I know that the way they prepare them is unmatched), and their steak frites is perfection too.
So imagine my disappointment when I brought several friends there recently "just to try the mussels" and what was brought out to us was NOT the mussels that are (in many people's opinion) their signature dish, but some "new" variation that were just awful. Covered in onion, in a weak, brothy sauce, they were flabby and terrible.
My question to the Franklin is this -- why oh why would you mess with your signature dish and lose customers? I asked the wait staff to ask the kitchen to please just make myself and my guests the mussels they've excelled at and that are salty, smokey, buttery and amazing and I was told "it's not on the menu." Really?
After over a decade of many amazing experiences, even a few New Years Eve's, I won't be going back. We literally went there for those mussels, prepared simply and perfectly. The end of an era.
