点评:A Hidden Heritage Gem Near Hyderabad — Alampur’s Jogulamba & Bala Brahmeswara Temples
As someone who has always envied Bangalore for its abundance of weekend getaways, I’ve often felt Hyderabad falls a bit short when it comes to quick sightseeing escapes. But every now and then, a place surprises you — pleasantly, profoundly.
My latest discovery? Alampur, home to the ancient Jogulamba Temple and the Bala Brahmeswara temples. And what a revelation this trip turned out to be!
Where Is It?
Alampur sits in Jogulamba Gadwal district, right on the banks of the mighty River Krishna, and almost at the confluence with River Tungabhadra. Though technically in Telangana, it’s just 15 minutes from Kurnool (AP).
The drive is a breeze — 4 hours on NH44, then a simple 20-minute detour towards Alampur.
Why This Place Amazed Me
This isn’t just another temple visit.
The Bala Brahmeswara group of temples dates back to the 6th century AD, and many of the inscriptions and sculptures stand proudly intact even today. The stonework takes you centuries back, offering a raw, unfiltered glimpse into how our gods and goddesses were depicted in ancient art.
There’s also a compact but informative museum, which I’d highly recommend spending time in — it adds so much context to the architecture and history.
And then, there’s the spiritual highlight…
Jogulamba Temple — One of the Ashtadasha Shaktipeethas
This temple is one of the 18 Shaktipeethas, and the only one in Telangana.
Legend says that Sati Devi’s upper tooth fell here during Shiva’s Pralaya Tandava.
Whether you’re spiritually inclined or just fascinated by mythology, this place carries a powerful, serene energy.
What You Can Do Here
While it’s not a packed tourist circuit with endless activities, it’s perfect for a soulful half-day retreat:
Wander through the ancient temple complex
Admire the sculptures, mandapas, and carvings
Sit by the River Krishna and enjoy the cool breeze
Take a short ride on the local teppa (coracle boat)
Soak in the silence, history, and riverbank serenity
Food & Travel Convenience
NH44 is dotted with countless dhabas, cafés, chai points, and restaurants — you’ll never run out of options on the way.
After your visit, you can:
Stay back in Kurnool for the night, OR
If you’re energetic (and fearless!), drive back to Hyderabad comfortably the same evening
Final Thoughts
Hyderabad may not match Bangalore in terms of weekend getaways just yet — but gems like Alampur remind us that the region has its own understated charm waiting to be explored.
If you’re looking for a short, meaningful, history-rich escape, Alampur truly deserves a spot on your travel list.

漫步于古老的寺庙群中;
欣赏那些雕塑、亭台与精美浮雕;
坐在克里希纳河边,感受习习凉风;
乘坐当地特有的圆顶小船,体验短暂的河上之旅;
