点评:This place is amazing!! We randomly spotted it on an OS map while on holiday in Bridport and then did a bit of googling. It's very close to Bridport, about 10 mins drive I suppose off a little hidden away lane.
Only downside was that we arrived the minute the tea room was closing for the day so can't comment on that, but it looked great. Just went into the mill itself - there's an honesty box to put your cash in and then you can climb up the rickety steep wooden stair cases to the second floor and mooch about as you wish. The place is a time warp of old mill, farm and garden machinery, tools, household stuff just lying there peacefully gathering dust in long deserved retirement. We even saw a couple of bats flying silently in the attic, escaping the heat of the day.
When we got down to the ground floor again, we bumped into the owner, Paul, and had a chat to him about the mill. He set the water wheel going for us - the mill gear all still works but hasn't ground flour in many years - he'd restored all the wooden cogs. It's fascinating to see.
Outside there's a stunning mill pond, so calm with water lillies and ducks, surrounded by trees and wild flowers, a dear little campsite, a small gift shop, which had also just closed for the day, but the nice lady looking after it did let me buy something 'out of hours'.
We just loved the whole place. It's a hidden gem, a rare example of a long forgotten world of hard work, of a simpler life, of somewhere that's in tune with its setting in the little river valley. Somewhere that'll never be ruined by visiting coach parties and gentrified tidiness!
