点评:That visit had been on our agenda for some years.
The museum is located in the old part of town of Portalegre in "antiga casa nobre da família Caldeira Castelo-Branco"
It is a very nice old building which has been restaured to accomodate this permanent exhibition. The day we visited the entry was free of charge.
Very nice and friendly welcome from the staff
The visit starts with a short documentary movie on the history of the museum and some very interesting (and important) explanations on the art of tapeçaria and how it changed from a local technique through the adoption of a Franche technique (point de Roubaix) to become a technique specific to Portalegre.
There are a number of explanations you can read prior to visiting the exhibition itself.
Then you can start the visit of the various rooms with a large number of tapestries.
Some tapestries are shown along with the original drawings and the technique to make them; it is quite remarquable.
The building itself is a piece of art which has been tranformed to accomodate the exhibition
It is well worth seeing and to spend at least a couple of hours to visit
