点评:There were a few reasons to like this castle. For one thing, it's one of only twelve original (not reconstructed) castles in Japan. It's quite old, some of it being 420 years old. It's also not mobbed with tourists, unlike many of the other Japanese castles (at least on non-cruise-ship days), and it has a very reasonable entry price.
I spent about two hours in the castle and on the grounds. The grounds themselves are nicely landscaped, and are particularly beautiful when the cherry trees are blooming in March/April. Inside the castle itself, there are some excellent displays on several floors describing the history of the castle and the area, and the construction techniques used for the castle. There's also a great model of the castle and grounds as it might have looked a few hundred years ago.
And, of course, there is the viewing area at the very top of the castle, which you can reach after (very carefully!) walking up the very steep original stairs in your stocking feet. It is worth the effort to reach the viewing area, as there are nice views of Kochi and the surrounding area.
