As someone who follows a vegan lifestyle, I avoid dairy products because of the suffering, exploitation, and separation of cows and their calves that are common in the commercial dairy industry. My understanding was that the temple cows are cared for with love and respect, and that dairy products offered within the temple might come from these protected cows.
During my visit, I asked whether the mango lassi sold at the temple was made from milk produced by the temple's own cows. I was saddened to learn that the dairy used was sourced externally rather than from the cows maintained by the temple.
In Hinduism, milk is often regarded as sacred, and Lord Krishna is revered as a protector and lover of cows. This has led me to reflect on an important question: if dairy products come from commercial sources where cows and calves may experience suffering, separation, or exploitation, is it consistent with the principle of cow protection (go-raksha) that Lord Krishna taught and exemplified?
I ask this question with sincere respect and a desire to better understand the temple's position. If the dairy products served or sold at the temple are sourced externally, could you please explain how the temple ensures that these products align with the values of compassion, non-violence (ahimsa), and cow protection that are central to our tradition?
