Nice place to spend a day out of Kota Kinabalu
神山国家公园的点评
点评：Took a day trip just to see the mountain and hike trails. We rented a car and drove from Kota Kinabalu. The road there was really not bad, I expected it to be much more treacherous based on other reviews I had read. We ended up getting there in the morning around 9am and hiked the Bukit Burung, Bukit Tapai, Silau Silau, Kiau View and Pandanus trails. The trails were not too difficult but Bukit Tapai, Bukit Burung, Kiau View, and Pandanus did have a decent amount of steps. Unfortunately the Liwagu trails was closed when we were there so we were not able to do that hike.
When we went the trails were also moderately muddy so I was grateful to have brought my hiking boots along. I also found a leech on my shoe after we got off the trail. I don't think leech socks are necessary but just something to keep in mind.
Out of the trails we did only Kiau had a view of the mountain but the view is obscured by many branches so while it is still nice there are not any great photo opportunities of the mountain. Wildlife spotting requires a lot of patience and luck. I believe the only mammals around are squirrels. We had the best luck birding on the Kiau trail and actually had a few nice sightings.
The Botanical Garden was an unexpected highlight. It is an additional charge but I believe it was only 5 ringgit a person. I would highly recommend doing to guided tour. Our guide gave us a lot of great info about his experience growing up in the area, how the various plants could be used medicinally, for food, etc.
