点评:We had seen many photos of the Great Buddha before coming to Kamakura, but photos really don’t give you the same feeling.
When you walk into the grounds and finally see it in front of you, the first thing you notice is the scale. It’s huge, but at the same time there is something very calm about it. Our six-year-old daughter was impressed immediately, and we spent quite a bit of time just walking around and looking at it from different angles.
One thing I really liked is that you can actually go inside the Buddha. It’s a small experience, but it makes the visit much more interesting, especially with a child.
The grounds themselves are not enormous, so you don’t need half a day here. But I wouldn’t rush it either. Take your time, walk around, look at the details and enjoy the atmosphere.
For me, this is one of those landmarks that deserves to be seen in person at least once. If you are making a day trip to Kamakura, I wouldn’t miss it.
