点评:We visited the Historical Village Hokkaido as part of an excursion from our cruise ship and, due to circumstances, we really didn't end up having much time to look around, which was a shame because there is such a lot to see.
We have this type of museum at home (in the UK) but there are usually people dressed in historical costume, working in the stores, or in the homes and using tools of the time; certainly it is much more of an immersive experience.
It would have greatly improved our visit if there had been someone to explain the nature of the building, what went on there, how things have changed etc.
A track runs down the central street and a horse drawn tram goes up and down it - not sure if there is an extra charge for this.
We visited the church and the shrine, popped our heads into the equivalent of a hardware store and that was about it - at the front and outside of each building there was a sign with basic details in Japanese and English.
So much work has been done to gather together these historical buildings into one location but we left with the feeling that much more could be done to really bring the site to life.
