罗斯基勒大教堂的点评
点评：It took us 20 minutes to get to Roskilde by train and we walked directly to the Cathedral. I took pictures of the 1,000 years old massive red stone church (restored several times over the centuries of course) and its two soaring spires. To our surprise, we were told that the Cathedral will be opened to tourists at 1 PM, so we headed to the Viking Ship Museum and returned to the Cathedral after that taking a short walk along the green alley.
Roskilde Cathedral is the burial place of 39 Danish Kings and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1995. The history of 800 years can be traced in the unique royal chapels of this massive Scandinavian Gothic red brick church. The elaborate wooden carved quire stalls and the organ are truly magnificent. The interior with its high naves is solemn and full of light. The Cathedral is glorious inside and outside well worth of its UNESCO award.
We were not hungry but a cup of coffee was badly needed. It was Sunday, so pretty much all the restaurants, cafes, shops were closed in Roskilde. Luckily, we found Lagkagehuset bakery, which was opened, and we got our coffee and two pistacchio croissants. The pastries were OK, but nothing special.
