点评:Disappointing experience with the staff
The Boyana Church itself is beautiful and absolutely worth seeing, but unfortunately our experience with the staff was very disappointing.
We were among the last visitors to enter and understood that the visit inside is limited to around 10 minutes. We respected that rule. However, instead of providing even a basic explanation about the extraordinary frescoes, the staff simply stayed focused on the timer. When our time was up, the door was opened and we were told to leave.
At the end, we wanted to buy a booklet, but the security guard started yelling at us in Bulgarian, even though we clearly did not understand what he was saying, and then effectively kicked us out. There was no polite explanation, no attempt to communicate, and no offer of a guide or information about the paintings.
We completely understand the need to manage visitor numbers and time, especially for such an important historical monument. But basic courtesy and communication should not be too much to expect. If visitors have only 10 minutes, at least provide some brief information about what they are seeing or clearly explain the rules.
The church is beautiful, but the management and attitude of the staff left a very negative impression. For a UNESCO World Heritage site, I expected much better standards of hospitality, communication, and professionalism.
