点评:Petra certainly needs to be seen. It is an extraordinary place. Some observations ...
1. Using the 'back door' via Little Petra to the monastery, and then returning to the town via the main trail worked well for us (I'm 70 and flagging). In all we walked just over 5 miles, but factor in the terrain and it felt more like 15. Going up to the monastery via the front trail and then back down again is exhausting for most people
2. However, using the back door route to get down may not be so straightforward. Starting out from the back trail we were transported ⅔ of the way there in a 4-wheel drive, and we and only walked 1½ miles (although it took us a full hour). If you try to get home via the back trail you may not be able to get transport so you may have to walk an extra 2½ miles.
I would therefore recommend back to front if you're planning a visit to the monastery at the very top.
3. You will be badgered endlessly by Bedouins offering you lifts on donkeys, horses or camels, and there are countless trinket stalls. You can get a donkey ride on the 1½ mile back trail for 5JDs. They will shadow you all the way up and keep offering, so you can't get lost, but the price never drops!
4. The one English word every Jordanian seems to know is 'Welcome!', and with very few exceptions everybody was very friendly. It made for a delightful holiday.
