弗里曼特尔监狱的点评
点评：It seems the former prisoners had an easier time escaping this place than I did. My plan to spend a morning on the Convict Prison tour followed by an afternoon at the Shipwrecks Museum was thwarted by the enthralment of that first experience, and I ended up completing the triple package of Convict Prison, Behind Bars and True Crime. Yes, I spent more time in Fremantle Prison than Samuel Andrews did on his first visit (and the fact I can recall that a day later is a testament to the education received).
This once grisly place is now simply just great. Its dark history is palpable as you roam the desolate halls, but the tone is lightened by the respectful yet oft-hilarious commentary of the guides. The three tours covered different themes but also different locations. True Crime, for example, grants you access to the gun tower and death row. Convict Prison takes you to solitary confinement, while Behind Bars brings you to the gallows. Second and third tours are discounted in price so don't second guess it: do as much time in Fremantle Prison as possible.
Massive thanks to Ella, Glenn, Seth and all the other wonderful staff in and around the ticketing area, and the fantastic two women in the gift shop. You all contributed to a terrific day out, and had the OG prison staff been as lovely as you all, I'm sure no one would have wanted to escape the prison at all.
