圣加仑修道院图书馆（Stiftsbibliothek）的点评
点评：It is only about a 15 minute walk from the St. Gallen Train station to the Abbey Library of St. Gallen. No worries to purchase your tickets in advance online as you can purchase them upon arrival at the 2nd floor Bookstore/Gift Shop. You will need to lock up your larger bags/backpacks in the lockers down the hall and keep the key with you before entering the Abbey Library. In addition, you will need to put on a pair of oversized gray color felt shoes to enter the library to prevent shoes from scratching the polished floors.
Despite how many people maybe in the Abbey Library, it is very quiet upon entering. It is good to walk around slowly to fully appreciate the wonderful colorful frescoes that adorn the ceiling walls, the numerous huge books locked on the shelves on the 1st and 2nd floor. Walk around to both ends and ponder the vastness here with the vast amount of hand artwork done here the Abbey Library.
In addition, there is a very ancient Egyptian mummy in the back for observation. Make sure you do not photograph it as it is strictly not allowed. There is also a huge colorful globe when you enter. I believe it was done several hundred years ago; therefore, some of the geographical location names have changed. It is a very detailed globe so it is nice to look closely at the intricate design.
Allow yourself at least 20-30 minutes to walk around the Abbey Library slowly. Photos are allowed but no flash photography. Also, access to the 2nd floor of the library was not open on the day we visited. Either way, it was viewable from the 1st floor. Definitely worth a visit here if you are visiting the Appenzell area of Switzerland. It is a great detour for at least 1/2 a day as you can also walk through the Old Town. We went on a Saturday and they had a wonderful Farmer's Market right outside the grounds of the Abbey Library of St. Gallens.
