点评:We visited Shanklin Theatre to see Susie Dent's live show 'Word Perfect' which we really enjoyed. It offered a journey in to the history and magic of the English language and it was very entertaining to learn about words from the past, the meaning of certain phrases, the use of slang and terms for being drunk! There was a very enjoyable Q&A session, undertaken via a QR code, which also gave the audience the chance to offer up some local Isle of Wight words for discussion as well as a poll on the pronunciation of 'scone'. The theatre itself was lovely, although not quite in its prime nowadays, but we appreciate its hard for local theatres when it comes to finance. The bar is downstairs and is well worth a visit even if you don't want refreshments or snacks to see the many posters signed by visiting bands, artists, celebrities etc. You can bring drinks back in to the auditorium however it does mean carefully carrying them back upstairs! The staff were brilliant and were very helpful, friendly and chatty. Parking wise there is a pay and display car park just down from the theatre around 5-10 minute walking distance. There is also some on street parking nearby but this is limited so it would be pot luck if you get a parking space. We look forward to our next visit.
