点评：Our trolley tour took us to Falls River Park, which was the best access to view the Reversing Falls. At this city park, there is free parking and a large viewing deck, to watch the Saint John’s River as it merges with the Bay of Fundy. The reversing action happens at low tide when the river empties into the Bay, causing rapids and whirlpools. As the tide rises, the flow of the river is reversed, peaking at high tide. This tide cycle takes 12 hours. Our view was across the river from the Irving Pulp and Paper Mill. The guide talked about his diving into the river at high tide and watching ocean fish swim in from the Bay, and identifying several species.
At low tide, jagged bedrock fragments from ancient continental plates are exposed.
At high tide, the overwhelming ocean force forces the river to flow backward, creating white water rapids, and raging whirlpools. Our tour came in the early afternoon, so we missed both events, but this river was still amazing to see. Under the bridge, there is an underwater waterfall which further agitates the water.
