Drumlanrig is a very worthwhile tour

点评：My wife and I went with our daughter visiting us from Dublin. We've been on numerous such tours, including Culzean, and this is by far the nicest. It helps that the palatial mansion is lived in. It's much warmer and less museum-y than most such tours. The art collection is fantastic, especially the Dutch masters pieces.
Our tour guide, Moira, was extremely well informed about all of the family history and the provenance of the contents of the home, and very welcoming. The tour lasts about an hour and a half and involves some stairs, but not a lot. In that time, visitors admire about a dozen rooms that the Scott family inhabit while in residence, virtually everything except for bedrooms and the like. Family photos are intermingled with works of art throughout. There are lovely woodland paths that one can walk, and the gardens. There's a nice tearoom within on the ground floor. In nearby Thornhill one can take the kids to the Drumlanrig Cafe for a good and very reasosonably priced pizza, if they've been good.
