点评：If you’re spending any time in Quito, you’re going to be surrounded by incredible colonial architecture, especially in Old Town. But if there’s one place that really stands out, it’s the Basilica del Voto Nacional.
This is one of the most striking landmarks in the city and is absolutely worth carving out time to visit. It sits just outside of Old Town and is easy to get to. If you’re driving, there’s a convenient parking garage directly across the street, which makes access simple.
Walking into the basilica is an experience in itself. The scale of the space is impressive, with massive stone arches, intricate details, and beautiful stained glass throughout. It has that grand, almost overwhelming feeling you get in some of the great churches of the world. You really do feel small standing inside it.
There are often services happening, so it’s important to be respectful while walking around. That said, visitors are welcome to explore, take in the architecture, and spend time moving through the different areas of the church. It’s a peaceful place to sit for a few minutes and just take it all in.
One of the highlights is the ability to go up into the towers. From there, you get some of the best views of Quito and Old Town. It’s definitely worth checking ahead to make sure tower access is open, as hours and availability can vary, and the building is old, so there is occasionally maintenance or construction.
There is a small entrance fee, but it’s very reasonable and well worth it for the experience.
We visited in the late afternoon, heading into sunset, which was a great time to go. The light over the city was beautiful, and it made for a really memorable visit. It also paired well with grabbing dinner nearby afterward.
