点评:One of the absolute jewels of Egypt, and absolutely worth the 4-5 hour drive across the desert to witness this cultural marvel.
There’s actually 2 temples here - and while you can queue to see inside both, the carvings and artwork inside doesn’t match the splendour of the stunning statues.
While the lines look long, no nonsense attendants keep people moving inside and out, and we only had to wait round 15 minutes.
One thing to beware of is that as most tours only allow 2 hours to visit, don’t leave your queuing to the last minute if you want to go inside.
The size of the site means even on busy days you can get decent pictures of the temples and marvel at the extraordinary effort to move effectively 2 entire mountains to save them from the dam.
The absolute worst thing here is the hawkers. To exit the site you have to leave through an endless series of stalls. They go on, and on, and on and some of the merchants were among the most aggressive we’ve seen.
At the exit near the bus waiting area there’s decent toilets and a small cafe.
Most tours will stop on the way to and from the site at a cafe about half way, which has ok toilets (pay upfront to use) and sells coffee and snacks.
